Strata GHG Reporting
Hurting your Wallet?
Every year, Vancouver and Victoria City Councils force strata buildings to spend thousands of dollars reporting on their GHG emissions and justifying them to the City government.
These onerous costs from municipalities are passed down to building residents through higher maintenance fees and strata costs.
Do you have a GHG emissions reporting story to share?

As a Strata Council member myself, I know how quickly costs can pile up.
Maintenance costs, utilities, insurance, and much more are contributing to higher and higher strata fees. The last thing stratas need is another unnecessary cost.
By mandating that strata corporations pay thousands of dollars to report and justify their GHG emissions to the City, an even greater burden is being placed on owners. At a time when people are struggling to pay their mortgage, the City is responding by adding on more and more fees to strata bills.
And this is only the first step. Reporting regulations could easily turn into fines for stratas with higher emissions. There are other ways to reduce emissions without placing additional financial burdens on strata owners.
Furthermore, other municipalities are implementing similar programs that harm condo owners. Starting June 1, the City of Victoria will require all buildings of a certain size to report their GHG emissions to the City, a program similar to the one already implemented in neighbouring Saanich.
Municipalities need to stop these unnecessary and costly regulations and find a more collaborative approach.
If you or someone you know is facing high strata costs due to emissions reporting, let me know!
